The Perfect Polishing Copper Laps are made with pure Copper. These polishing laps can be used for both pre-polishing and final polishing. They work brilliantly for finishing gemstones to the finest level. Suitable for polishing hard stones like Corundum, Rubies & Sapphires. Q:How to charge a copper lap? If it's a new copper lap it's going to take a bit to coat (actually embed into) the soft copper. To charge a copper lap it's good quality diamond powder and a carrier. I use vasoline - which is a bit too thick, others use Almond oil. As a lube I use WD40 or such like, but very little. Q:What is a flat lap? These traditional-style units use loose grit and a steel plate to lap your pieces flat. You create a grit slurry on the lapping head and grind your piece directly on the plate's surface. These units tend to be more messy than the diamond units because of the loose grit slurry. Q:What is the difference between lapping and polishing? The main difference between lapping and polishing is the amount of material being removed and the final appearance of the work piece. Lapping can remove much more material and leaves a dull matte finish, while polishing removes a small amount of material and leaves a bright, reflective finish.
