The peak performance of a diamond grinding wheel is achieved when grinding non-ferrous materials like carbide, glass, and ceramics. Even though diamond still takes the top spot when it comes to hardness, it isn't always the best abrasive for the job.
Q: What speed should a diamond grinding wheel be?
Usually about 3200 to 6000 RPM for a name brand wheel marked with RPM. 4000 to 6000 RPM better for most diamond grinding wheels that size, but some name brand wheel are marked and can run over 10,000RPM.
Q: What is the purpose of diamond grinding?
Well-executed diamond grinding completely removes laitance and levels off imperfections on the concrete surface. This method produces a flat, smooth surface with a profile ideal for all coatings applied by roller or applicator. The surface must be free from oil, grease, dirt and all other contaminants.
Q: Why diamond wheels are not used for grinding steel components?
Using a diamond grinding wheel on steel is not recommended. The high temperatures generated when grinding steel can cause the diamond to react with the carbon in the steel, leading to the deterioration of the diamond grit.

Certain blades like the Husqvarna High Pro 3 and 5 series are acceptable for cutting through steel bars. But in general, abrasive saws are betting for cutting steel, not diamond.
